The Catalonian, Spanish and European DH Championships will turn La Molina into the centre of mountain biking during the months of July and August.
This year's new features also include the inauguration of the Xiringuito del Llac, new walking, mountain bike and eBike routes, and a new circuit in the Bike Park at the Girona resort.
The La Molina mountain resort, managed by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya, opens its season this weekend, June 14 and 15, and will reopen daily to the public from June 21 to September 7. During the month of September, it will be open every Saturday and Sunday, as well as on the 11th and 12th, and the season will end on the weekend of October 4 and 5.
La Molina is preparing to be the epicenter of mountain biking from August 1 to 3, when it will host the European Downhill Mountain Bike Championship (DHI) of the European Cycling Union (UEC). This prestigious competition will bring together nearly 500 elite riders from more than 20 European countries, including prominent Spanish athletes such as Ángel Suárez, Daniel Castellanos and Julia Barthe, who will compete in the renowned Bike Park in La Molina. This facility, with more than 20 years of history and 13 circuits, will provide a specially designed route for the occasion to guarantee a high-level spectacle in the natural environment of the Catalan Pyrenees.
The Government of Spain and the Generalitat de Catalunya are leading the institutional support for the organization of these championships. The Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD), a body dependent on the Ministerio de Educación, Formación Profesional y Deportes, the Departament d’Esports and Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya agree that the organization of these European Championships will strengthen the positioning of Spain and Catalonia as an ideal enclave for the practice of BTT and as a reference destination for cycling and mountain sports. For La Molina it represents a new opportunity to show the world the spectacular Bike Park and take advantage of the expertise that the resort has in organizing top-level events.
The sporting event will also have a significant economic, sporting and media impact on the Cerdà region. In July, the Girona resort will also be the venue for the Catalonia and Spain Downhill Championship (DH), on the 18th, 19th and 20th.
