The La Molina mountain resort, owned by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat, is kicking off a spectacular DHI summer with the celebration of these two competitions on July 18, 19 and 20.

The most important national competition Downhill (DHI), the most spectacular discipline of mountain biking (BTT), will take place this weekend in La Molina. The best Spanish riders will battle to conquer the first position of the Spanish Championship and to win the champion's jersey. In addition, Catalan riders will also take part in the Catalan Championship in a vibrant weekend full of adrenaline and ideal for enjoying one of the biggest cycling events in the territory.

The competition will bring together a total of 271 riders. Beyond proclaiming the best riders in the State, these Championships have great relevance for the European Championship, which will also be held in La Molina on August 1, 2 and 3. Therefore, the results will determine the list of selected riders that the RFEC will draw up with the members of the Spanish delegation.

As outstanding riders who will wear the label of favorites during the Championships, the Galician Ángel Suárez stands out; an internationally renowned rider with a renowned track record -four-time champion and current runner-up in Spain, seventh place in the 2024 World Championship, podiums in the World Cup and current number 42 in the world ranking-.

The young Daniel Castellanos will be another of the great candidates for victory. The current Spanish Champion will defend the national title achieved last season. The rider from Madrid, who already has some podiums in the World Cup, has been able to complete a first part of the year with strong international commitments, which have earned him position 49 in the world ranking.

On the other hand, the Catalan Oriol Cuadrat is presented as one of the riders to take into account for both the Catalan and Spanish Championships. He is one of the great promises of the national downhill; his 18 years place him as the favorite for the Junior category, although he could be the surprise in the general. Yelco Romero, Nacho García or Edgar Carballo will also fight to sign the best possible performance.

In the women's category, Kira Zamora -number 51 in the world ranking, current Champion of the Spanish Cup of Downhill in the Elite category and runner-up of Spain and, if there are no unexpected surprises, one of those called up to the European Championship-. On the other hand, the Asturian Cristina Menéndez will defend the title and try to repeat the fantastic victory in the 2024 Spanish Championship.

Zoe Zamora, Sara Yusto or Maria Pomés will be other of the main candidates to wear the colors of Spanish champions.

The La Molina route

The stage of the Spanish and Catalan Championship will be the Bike Park of the La Molina mountain station, managed by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), the largest and most complete in Catalonia and the Spanish State. The route is 2.3 kilometers long and has a negative elevation of 411 meters; competitors will start at an altitude of 2,073 meters and descend to 1,660 meters.

The track combines natural areas with bike park sections, resulting in an attractive descent, although also marked by physical and technical demands.

Special prices for the public and the rest of the Bike Park open

During the days of the DH Championships, July 18, 19 and 20 and August 1, 2 and 3, the Telecadira Cap de Comella will only be accessible by bicycle to registered runners and the organization. The general public will be able to access without a bicycle with a season pass or with a ride ticket that will have a reduced rate for adults of €12 (RRP €15) and children from 4 to 11 years old at €6 (RRP €10).

As for the Cadí-Moixeró Cable Car, which gives access to most of the mountain bike trails, it will be open to the public as usual and the bike park in this area will operate as usual throughout the summer. A good opportunity to watch the best on the Comella DH track and then emulate them on the rest of the trails offered by the resort.

It should also be added that the Self-service in the Telecabina building will be open to the public for the DH Championships on July 18, 19 and 20 and August 1, 2 and 3. The hours will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Government of Spain and the Generalitat de Catalunya are leading the institutional support for these championships. The Superior Council of Sports (CSD), a body dependent on the Ministry of Education, Professional Training and Sports, the Department of Sports and FGC, agree that the organization of these European Championships will strengthen the positioning of Spain and Catalonia as ideal places for practicing BTT and as a reference destination in cycling and mountain sports.
