The mountain resorts of La Molina and Vallter will be two high-end stages of the 102nd edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, which will take place from 20 to 26 March 2023. Two ports that are already a reference in history recent race and they offer a great sporting spectacle.

La Molina resort, located in the municipality of Alp in the Cerdanya region, has been a regular in La Volta since it was first reached in 2014. With a distance of 12.1km, an average gradient of 4.4% and maximum ramps of 15%, La Molina has been the scene of up to seven arrivals from the Volta, all in the last decade. Australian Ben O'Connor (2022), Colombian Miguel Ángel López (2019), Murcian Alejandro Valverde (2018 and 2017), Irishman Dan Martin (2016), American Tejay Van Garderen (2015) and Catalan Joaquim Rodríguez (2014) are the cyclists who have raised their arms at the Pyrenees resort of La Cerdanya.

For its part, Vallter will be the other Pyrenean arrival of the Volta 2023. A station that is part of the municipality of Setcases and has been key to understanding the recent history of the Volta as several winners of the general have based the his victory.

The British Adam Yates has been the winner on the last two occasions that he has been promoted to Vallter (2021 and 2019), but renowned cyclists such as Tejay Van Garderen (2014, the only one who has done so in the two stations), the Colombian Nairo Quintana (2013), and decades before the Swiss Tony Rominger (1992) and the Spanish Juan Fernández (1986), in the premiere of the station in the Volta.

Vallter, a port of special category also ideal to enjoy as a tourist tourist, becomes the cycling roof of Catalonia with an arrival of 2,150 meters and 11.2km in length with an average gradient of 7.6%, and with maximum ramps of 18%. A hard port that can determine quite decisively the general classification of the Volta.

The president of FGC, Marta Subirà, has assured that “once again, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat revalidates its commitment to the territory and to the promotion of competitive sport by collaborating with a powerful event such as La Volta , a great showcase for the international projection of the Pyrenees. La Volta is an institution in itself and is a great opportunity to place Catalonia on the international sports map ”. Subirà added that "cycling in the Pyrenees contributes to the deseasonalisation of the activities of the railway mountain stations beyond the snow season and helps to diversify the offer and uses of our facilities".

"This 2023, the Volta will have the end of the stage in La Molina and Vallter, two mountain ports in which we feel very comfortable, as they have always offered a great show with magnificent winners. We are sure that, once again, we will once again experience a great cycling festival, and for us it is a pleasure to continue counting on the collaboration of the FGC mountain resorts ", said the president of the Volta, Rubèn Peris.

The stage outings of the two Pyrenean stages, as well as the exact day of their dispute, will be determined once the 102nd edition of the Volta has been defined.
